New Belgo-Cuban cooperation programme launched

11:53 13/03/2013

A cooperation programme between Cuba and Belgium was ratified on Monday in Santiago de Cuba by Luc Devolder, Belgian ambassador to Havana, reports the CAN agency. The programme will see the University of Oriente collaborate with five Belgian universities. Devolder announced that a scientific cooperation programme that favours the sustainable development of the island’s eastern area would begin in April, and described the project as ambitious and of great impact. Hipolito Carvajal, deputy rector of the University and coordinator of the Cuban party, explained that working groups operated in nine areas, aimed at priorities like computing, the strengthening of the knowledge of languages and technological innovation. They also include the development of advanced medical equipment and pharmaceutical products, food safety, energy sources, the environment, social and humanistic sciences, and scientific and academic projects, which will begin in April with funding from Belgium’s Flemish Inter-University Council.
