Netflix coming to Belgium in September

11:07 22/07/2014

Netflix, the movie and television show rental service that offers media to subscribers via internet, will start in September in Belgium and five other European countries. The company currently has 50 million subscribers worldwide, the US company announced during the presentation of its quarterly results.

"In September, we start in Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg," reads the quarterly letter from Netflix to its shareholders.

The company’s streaming service was established in 2007 and has grown rapidly since then, amassing about 50 million subscribers across 40 countries. The largest number of Netflix subscribers live in the company's homeland of the US (36 million), but the number of subscribers outside the US has grown to about 13.8 million.

In Europe, Netflix has been active in Britain, Ireland, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden since 2012, and in the Netherlands since last year. Now Belgium joins the list.

Netflix also produces its own series, including House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black.
