Mostly Belgian drivers caught speeding in France, says VAB

19:42 08/08/2017

Last year, 446,161 Belgians were caught driving over the speed limit in France. The figure accounts for 17% of the total number of speeding fines sent by France to other European countries. The Belgians beat the Spaniards, with 406,669 fines, and the Germans, with 386,287 fines.

Belgian automobile association VAB suspects that many Belgian drivers are not aware that speed limits in France can change quickly, especially near cities and construction works. The motorway near a city, for example, often has a speed limit of 90km per hour.

Another reason for the high number is that many Belgians travel through France on their way to holiday in Spain.
