More than 80 police uniforms stolen last year

14:34 16/08/2016

In the first half of 2015, unknown thieves stole a total of 80 police and military uniforms, according to VTM Nieuws. Four years ago, by comparison, 284 uniforms disappeared. While last year's figures are lower than in previous years, any number of stolen uniforms remains worrying, as they can be used to disguise criminals and terrorists, say police unions.

Several Belgian police uniforms were found last year during the raid on a house in Verviers.

The liberal police union is therefore urging the government to make a collective recall of all the uniforms still in circulation, as some could be kept in agents' homes, where many of the thefts occur.
