Migration march brings 2,500 protestors to Rue de la Loi

21:15 13/12/2017

About 2,500 demonstrators took over the Rue de la Loi during Wednesday evening rush hour to call for a fairer European migration policy, on the eve of an EU summit debating the refugee crisis.

The busy street was closed to traffic from 17.00 as protestors dressed in foil thermal blankets marched from Arts-Loi to the Berlaymont, carrying a 100-metre-long list with the name of every migrant who died on the hazardous Mediterranean crossing to Europe.

The protest, under the slogan #InMyName, was backed by a coalition of charities and associations, including 11.11.11, Amitié Sans Frontières, Doctors of the World, Oxfam and SOS Faim.

The march called for "a real, safe and legal way to Europe and the immediate halt to violence on the borders. Workers, unemployed, citizens of all ages and horizons, we are all in the same boat".
