Man climbs 30 floors of Brussels Sheraton stairs in under 2 minutes

15:41 30/11/2015

In Brussels on Sunday, 162 people climbed the 466 steps of the 30-story Sheraton Hotel in the fifth edition of a unique race organised each year by Unicef Belgium.

Omar Bekkali was this year's winner, reaching the top floor of the building in one minute and 54 seconds. It is the third year in a row that the first prize goes to Bekkali, who finished in two minutes and five seconds in 2014, and in two minutes and two seconds last year. The fastest woman, Marion Raballand, got to the top in just three minutes and 11 seconds, reports Het Laatste Nieuws.

The majority of the participants took part just for fun, and reportedly huffed and puffed their way to the top. A group of local firefighters also took part, in full gear, as they do every year.

This year for the first time there was also a Stair Climbing challenge for children, who raced their way up seven floors.

All proceeds from the €18 registration fee per person (or €20 on-site) went to benefit Unicef.
