Lufthansa pilots extend strike into Thursday

09:56 23/11/2016

Pilots of the German airline Lufthansa will extend their 24-hour strike today until Thursday, announced the pilots' union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC), after the appeals court again ruled in favour of the pilots despite Lufthansa's efforts to halt the strike.

The pilots and the airline are in the middle of a long-running pay dispute, with the pilots demanding a 22% salary increase over a period of five years.

Nearly 100,000 passengers are affected by the pilots strike. According to Brussels Airport, about 20 flights today were cancelled by the strike, including flights between Brussels and German cities such as Munich and Frankfurt.

Flights by Lufthansa's other airlines, including Brussels Airlines, will not be affected, Lufthansa said.
