Low Flying Airplanes Driving Me Insane

Question

Hello everyone,

Can someone please give me some information as to why there are airplanes flying really low over my house (Woluwe) at all hours of the day, 4am, 6am and even 11/12pm? It's starting to really affect my sleep. It's crazy that people living in a city have planes flying right over their homes, as well as flying pretty close to the city centre as well.

I remember the whole plan Watehelet and the campaign against it a couple of years ago. Then things seemed to get much better, now they seem to have gotten worse again. Who makes the decision to allow planes fly this route? Who can I complain to? Is it likely this situation will change anytime soon?

Thanks in advance.

J

Here's the main NIMBY website. They will be happy to help.

They are at exactly the same height as they always were. I have no idea of the politics behind this, but aircraft generally land in to wind and no politician can control the wind. Also, if you get your way and other runways are used, it just means other people suffer the noise. Personally, before buying or renting a house in these areas, I would factor in the cost of some earplugs.

One can track all aircraft (https://www.flightradar24.com) and then complain if you wish.
Having done a track of all aircraft over Woluwe during the past week, there are very few and only very occasionally freight aircraft below 3000 metres and none within you time slots
You can track aircraft through 'https://www.flightradar24.com'.
The bottom line is that you chose to live there knowing that you are under a flight path, if you did not know then you are a fool.

Hi Danny I think it's a case that every one gets planes some times and areas nearer airports get more. Had a friend who insulated her loft if they aren't over you they are over someone else. We get them sometimes and sometimes in the night but I just accept that in a small country the airport nearness means I get a bit of noise.

This has been a recurrent issue in Belgian politics for years. It seems that every now and then the flight routes get shuffled around, but it just leads to different people protesting. The obvious problem is that Flanders is very densely populated, so there is no real way for planes to avoid population centers, regardless of which direction they're coming from.

If planes are giving you grief at night, I would honestly consider ear plugs as someone else has (perhaps jokingly) suggested. They do wonders to eliminate background noise when you get used to them.
