Lidl to redesign 300 Belgian supermarkets

08:25 24/08/2023

German supermarket chain Lidl wants to revamp its 310 Belgian stores, giving them all an identical look and layout.

With this change, the company hopes to increase staff efficiency as well as making the shopping experience easier for the customer.

The supermarket chain is going for a "simplification", a Lidl spokesperson told Het Laatste Nieuws.

“The goal is for customers to recognise a Lidl when they enter,” she added.

The chain is therefore opting for a simpler “hard discount” model with more visible promotions and more automatic checkouts.

“At the moment there are many variations between our branches, which means that there are many different operational tasks per store,” the spokesperson said.

“By switching to a clear store concept for all stores in terms of logistics, transport, deliveries, it will also be easier and more efficient for our staff.”
