License plate scanners combat tax evasion

Five special license plate scanners installed along roads across Flanders have proven successful in the fight against drivers who fail to pay the road tax. So far, more than 5,400 defaulters have been caught by the cameras, representing €2.3million in owed taxes. "One such scanner costs €30,000, so it is an investment that quickly pays for itself,” says Flemish Finance Minister Philippe Muyters (N-VA).
