Lawyer fees

Question

Hi, can lawyers charge you for answering the q basic query "I am facing X, is this something you can help me with?" and a few back and forth emails trying to make an appointment, rescheduling? No actual legal work was done. Is this a legal bad practice that I can or should report? Thanks.

Kasseistamper, I would be grateful for the details of your lawyer/notaire and where he is based, please.
Thank you.

@KASSEISTAMPER "my notaris gave us an extremely detailed briefing on inheritances and, when my wife died some years later, dealt with all the legal aspects of her estate."

That's correct - you wouldn't go to a lawyer for that work as it is precisely what notaires are for.

@BECASSE - A notaire/notaris should be able to help with almost any matter concerned with civil law.

That's not correct. Notaires provide legal services and advice in some very limited areas of civil law, such as the purchase and sale of property, family law, (marriage, divorce, inheritance etc.) and company law, specifically the registration and formation of companies.

Hi there! I don't think so, that the lawyer will charge you on the basic question. Well, it depends on the lawyer. Different lawyer charges for different option, depending on the type of case and experience. So choosing a good lawyer by checking all the reviews regarding fees is important. Try to find out more articles online about lawyer when hiring and also read reviews from the social pages such as http://fr.linkedin.com/in/bechara-tarabay-550b7929 before hiring.
