Job opportunities for English graduate

Question

Hello,
I am an Indian, has a Bachelor degree in English.I have got a couple of years experience in teaching. Are there any opportunities for me apart from teaching? What type of companies hire English graduates?I have basic knowledge of Dutch but not fluent. Are there any short term courses that help me to get a job relevant to my degree?I am not really sure about the job market in Belgium.Could anybody suggest any?
Thanks.

Hi

There a few teaching jobs in the Jobs section on this site. Although, lack of dutch and/or french might pose quite a problem. I've been in and out of Belgium for 10+ years, probably about 5 of those 10 years in Belgium, and I have trouble finding work in Brussels without speaking/writing fluent French AND Dutch. And my French is better than most French speakers I know here (I went to school in Luxembourg, degrees/masters England (including BSc French, worked in Belgium, France and french-speaking Swtizerland). And I'm partly Indian, but have Irish nationality becuase my father was Irish, mother is Indian, though has Irish nationality from marriage). But having Indian nationality would also be a barrier. http://www.jobsinbrussels.com/ specializes in Brussels jobs for English speakers. Good luck.

Companies are quite afraid of foreigners. They are afraid of Islam a lot. I do not know how they feel about Indians. They do not want to risk it simply. 'What if's are quite common here. They want to stick to what they know. The reason for this is all around the world people are just watching television. People not reading anymore and too much television creates a fear for the world. Age is also a big matter here. You have to be young, single and exploitable for long hours of unpaid work. This is generally the way things are all over Europe right now. This is my own experience. However, I hope it will be better for you.
