Irish Salmon

Question

Hi All!
Does anyone know why Delhaize no longer stocks Smoked Irish Salmon?
It's been missing from the shelves for a while now.

Cheers!

CM

They still sell organic Irish salmon, but it costs and arm and a leg and it tastes exactly the same as the cheaper Norwegian stuff.

CM: If by organic you mean wild, then check out what is involved in farming salmon: dyes, fatty fish food, diseases due to crowding. Sometimes the cheaper price isn't worth it.

Two of many articles:

@ R. Harris - so Wild Salmon is 40% Phosphorous?
That first article is so badly written and full of rubbish I gave up, and the second is just another example of wild speculation. At a minimum, if you're going to quote articles, at least get some that are properly written and have some referenced facts.

To fadzy - try any fishmonger. They will be able to order it for you now. You probably haven't seen it as it is out of the season over the winter, and supply will only really be coming back to the market now. November, December and January is effectively a closed season for Salmon in Ireland.

Read the other one, it's actually full of references.

I just picked the top two on a list of many. A badly written article does not mean the serious problems with farmed fish don't exist.
You want to keep eating it? Go ahead.

They do say farmed fish is very intensive on the amount of fish required to feed it as opposed to what a wild caught fish would take. Also there is evidence of disease and stress and certainly in Scotland they worry about the disease passing out to wild salmon and causing problems. However it's actually like any meat production. You have no idea what they did with the animals even organic they are commodities and the farmers don't see them as anything but that certainly they aren't thought of as something that can think or feel. I have friends who are farmers in the uk and refer to their cows as beasts. So even if you eat wild caught it's still ripped out of the water to die but at least had a chance to live as fish should. If you really worry about organic buy only organic veg and leave the animals alive . That way you know they don't seem to have what we think of as brains or feelings
