International Business Court planned for Brussels

Belgian prime minister Charles Michel and federal justice minister Koen Geens (pictured) have put together a draft proposal for a ‘Brussels international Business Court’, which they say would settle legal disputes among international companies.

A preliminary document outling the structure and responsibilities of the institution has been drafted; the pair would like to see it start operating sometime over the next few months.

The working language of the court would be English, and all decisions would be written in English. Companies would not be allowed to appeal decisions made by the court.

According to newspaper L’Echo, which has seen the draft proposal, complications arising from Brexit – the UK’s departure from the EU – could be handled by such a court.
