Injured Kompany to sit out European Football Championship

15:16 08/05/2016

The Belgian Red Devils will have to do without Vincent Kompany at the 2016 UEFA European Championship, or Euro 2016. The Manchester City player on Saturday announced that he was sidelined by a groin injury, which he sustained earlier last week during a Champions League match against Real Madrid.

“I'll miss the Euros. To me that's very sad news,” the Belgian defender wrote on his Facebook page. “So I could be standing here, feeling sorry for myself. I could fear for my career, as others may do. I could give up. That is not me. I decide on my future.”

Belgium takes on Italy, Sweden and Ireland in the group stage of Euro 2016, which kicks off next month in France.
