How to fix my job search mistake

Question

Hi there,

I left my job last year and doing self employed business in unrelated area.
I found a job now but didn't mention I left my old work, I didn't want to have a career gap as such.

Now I learned I need give a holiday transfer document from my old employee to the new one. Can I just say I don't have transfer days and avoid giving this document ? Is there a way they can find out ?

I also consider coming clean but this might result in cancellation of offer, as I behaved like I was still working there :(

Any help will be useful

Thanks

J

Come clean. You have no choice.
1. You WILL be found out
2. Your days might still get carried over if you come clean
3. There's really no shame in being nervous about the gap - a lot of people are, and the HR department is likely to be sympathetic
4. It costs a LOT of money and effort to recruit people. Your stress about getting the job is likely to be just as much as their stress at having to find the right person to fill it.
5. Explaining a lie you have tried to hide is much harder.

The document they're asking for isn't just about transferring holidays, it's about your social security payments etc. It's called a C4. If you have been employed in Belgium before, then it's basically illegal for a new employer to hire you without this form, which they either get directly from you, or your previous employer through their mutuelle.

Agree with J above, you'll have to come clean with the new employer now and get it over with. You basically don't have any choice.

If you have deliberately lied in order to get a job you leave yourself open to instant dismissal for fraud.
So, leading them to believe that you are still in employment is fine but deliberately stating that you are currently employed by another company knowing that you are, in fact, not so employed leaves you at risk.
In any case your new employer is likely to ask for details of your last employer in order to take up references.
Come clean now - what's the problem with saying that you have been self-employed for a number of months?

The problem as I see it, is why you were self employed/unemployed for some months. Why did you leave your previous job. I work in HR and hire people. If someone is working for a company, then I presume that company thinks they are worth employing. If someone is self-employed that is fine. If someone is unemployed, then I want to know why they left their previous job. Can you get a reference from your previous employer saying why you left? (own free will rather than fired) Can you explain why you wanted to try something different? Get your story straight and grit your teeth and get it over with. You need the C4.
