House in Ireland- tax liability on rent

Question

If someone is 'seconded' to Brussels from Ireland as a civil servant, continuing to be paid from Ireland, are they liable for tax in Ireland if they rent the family home in Ireland while they are away? I suppose so?

CMH

Dear Georgiana, you will have to pay tax on the rental income irrespective of whether you live in Ireland or abroad. You should contact Revenue to determine your residency status and hence your tax liability. But either way, you'll pay! And remember, even if your are operating at a loss, you still have to complete and file a tax return.
