Half of young Belgian adults still living with parents

11:36 22/04/2014

In 2011, 51% of Belgians between 18 and 29 years old were still living with their parents. That is an increase of 8% on 2007, according to a poll conducted by Eurofound. The economic crisis and problems in the labour market are largely responsible for the trend.

The Belgian numbers are slightly higher than the European average of 47%. According to Eurofound’s European Quality of Life Survey, the young adults still living at home are mostly students, but nearly one in three has a full-time job. Difficulty finding a job following studies and the high cost of housing are two of the main reasons young adults are waiting longer to get their own place.
