Half of children wrongly buckled up

12:21 25/09/2012

More than half of children are not wearing car seatbelts correctly, the Belgian institute for road safety (ISBR) warned today. Worse, one in 10 don’t wear a seatbelt at all. In 2010, 1,821 children under 12 were involved in road accidents resulting in injuries, including 77 deaths. “A child correctly buckled up in the back seat is three times less likely to die or to suffer severe injuries,” an ISBR spokesperson said yesterday. A new awareness campaign runs until October 21, asking road users to double-check the way their children are buckled up. Videos explaining the correct way to strap children in are available at www.goforzero.be
