Got job in the UK

Question

Hello,

I agreed to a job offer in UK Coventry, It seems cost of living there is not so bad.
But I wonder what gross 42K pounds correspond to net salary Euro in Belgium in terms of quality of life?
I know there is no exact number and depend on lifestyle etc. but any answer is appreciated

Thank you

That is a good salary for Coventry. You should be able to rent 4 bed room house for around 600-700 PCM. Places around Walsgrave hospital are very safe. Allesley village is also a nice place to live with plenty of green areas but you may need a car.
Some parts of the Coventry are notorious for crime & drugs. Avoid stoke, heath areas.

I just did a quick calculation and from your salary you would get after tax £2,637.27 per month if you are single no kids etc. With 800 a month for a big house and allowing another 250 a month for standard bills electricity, gas etc that would leave you 1600 a month to eat and spend on the rest of lifes luxuries. Don't forget that in the UK visiting a doctor is free. Going to hospital is free.

When I first went to Belgium, many people furiously argued that Belgium was some sort of bargain basement with incredible value for money. They were full of it then and they are most certainly full of it now.

That was when Q&A was actually alive. :-)

You are looking at about 2700 a Month net and in that part of the World, you can live very well indeed. Cost of living is significantly lower. That said, I would not consider Coventry to be the nicest part of the UK.
