Giant omelette of Malmedy draws international attention
Belgium
20:07 15/08/2017
In the small Belgian town of Malmedy on Tuesday, a giant omelette was made according to annual tradition. Several cooks with long wooden spatulas and a 4m pan used about 6,500 eggs and 25kg of bacon to create the dish, which was freely shared with spectators.
This year's event drew a smaller crowd than previous editions, perhaps due to the ongoing fipronil egg contamination crisis, the rainy weather or a combination of both. While only about 1,000 visitors turned up to enjoy the 22nd egg festival, the international press was present, including reporters from Germany, Italy, France and China.
