Ghent Altarpiece removed for restoration

Eight panels of the Ghent Altarpiece, or Adoration of the Mystic Lamb, were carefully dismantled and transported Tuesday under police escort from Ghent’s Saint Bavo Cathedral to the Museum of Fine Arts. There, the nearly 600-year-old masterpiece by the brothers Van Eyck will undergo a two year-long restoration process. In room four of the Museum of Fine Arts is a studio equipped with specially protected glass, so visitors can follow the restoration work live.
