Getting around Brussels: Download our free comprehensive guide

11:23 19/02/2017
From driving to cycling, public transport and air connections. Getting from A to B in Brussels (and beyond) just became a bit easier

Transport in Brussels – and Belgium as a whole – is a hot topic and a major strategic priority.

Road traffic continues to rise and the capital is one of the most congested in Europe. Only this month, the European Commission issued a warning to Belgium that it must urgently address traffic congestion and discourage the use of cars if it is to meet its targets for air pollution.

In an interview last summer, the Brussels region's mobility minister Pascal Smet told us: "Until recently, the city made every accommodation for cars and did nothing for cyclists or pedestrians. That is now changing."

The Bulletin has compiled a comprehensive e-book covering all aspects of transport and travelling in Brussels and beyond - from negotiating the city's extensive public transport network to the new boom in car-sharing.

While road travel is still a major part of the transport mix, we also look at cycling and walking, not to mention rail travel. Belgium's position as a crossroads in Europe means it has great rail access to the rest of the continent.

Topics covered in the transport e-book include:

  • Buying a second-hand car
  • Exchanging your driving licence for a Belgian one
  • Importing a car into Belgium
  • Learning to drive
  • An overview of public transport in Brussels
  • Staying safe on the metro
  • Using taxis
  • Car-sharing and car-pooling
  • Flying from Belgium's airports
  • Rail travel options from Brussels
  • Tips on cycling in Brussels
  • Bike-sharing schemes
