06:57 23/04/2017

Thousands of French voters lined up to to cast their vote in the French presidential elections at Brussels Expo on Sunday. French nationals living in Brussels had until 19.00 to visit the polling station in Brussels Expo or in the French Consulate in Boulevard du Régent.

Security measures at the polling stations in Brussels, as in France, were especially strict following Thursday's attack on Paris' Avenue des Champs Élysées.

In total, there are about 91,500 French voters in Belgium, including about 46,000 in the capital. The additional polling station at Brussels Expo was opened due to the high turnout expected.

For the French in Belgium, the presidential election remains an important event. "We want to have a say in what's happening in our home country, because one day we will definitely return," voter Caroline Monterrat told Bruzz. "We do not really know what's going to happen and so we're a bit scared, but we really hope it will not be Le Pen."
