Flagey public drinking ban now from midnight

18:36 11/03/2018

Ixelles has extended its late-night alcohol ban around Place Flagey, banning the consumption of alcoholic drinks in public areas from midnight.

The ban first came into force last September and applied from 2.00 to 8.00 every morning, covering the area around Place Sainte-Croix, Rue de Belvédère and the Ixelles ponds.

The restrictions will be brought forward by two hours from 15 March. Ixelles mayor Dominique Dufourny said public disorder, noise and dirtiness were still a major problem in the area - and residents wanted tougher action.

In January, the municipality began applying a water-resistant paint to the walls of buildings to discourage men from urinating in public.
