First World War exhibition opens in Brussels

An exhibition featuring the lives of average Belgians during the German occupation of the First World War has opened in Brussels to mark the centenary of the beginning of the four-year conflict.

The exhibition, taking place at the Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and Military History at Brussels Cinquantenaire, will give the public the chance to learn about more than just the fighting. Visitors will be able to explore the lives of everyday people, and how they lived through the period. Visitors will also be able to see what it was like to exist in the trenches,

The museum has prepared a range of objects, personal testimonies, films and hands-on installations to help show how the Great War left its mark over the past 100 years. The exhibition runs until March 26 2015.
