Eric to batter Belgium until the weekend

11:05 27/12/2013

The wet and windy holiday weather is set to continue in full force, as a new storm will soak the country until Saturday.

The latest winter storm, Eric, began gusting into Belgium Friday morning with winds expected to hit up to 75 and 85 km/h along the north coast. The blustery conditions have prompted a yellow alert.

The unseasonal warm conditions, with temperatures in some areas expected to hit 11 degrees, will cause some very wet conditions.

Flooding will become a real concern for regions in the south, as weather reports are calling for an expected 20 to 25 litres of rain per square metre to pour down between Friday night and Saturday morning. Many rivers are already at their peak.

The grey skies will continue even after Eric passes Saturday afternoon and moves towards Germany.
