all suggestions welcomed,

have you checked out the Ardennes (google durnuy adventures and durbuy gites)? How far do you want to travel? How old are your children?

We are moving shortly to Saint-Omer, just over the border in Northern France. It’s a 1h50 drive once you are on the E40 at Grand-Bigard.
It’s a particularly nice area, you have the Marais, which is an enormous wetland you can explore by boat, bike or on foot, La Coupole WW2 museum built on V-bomb launch site, a touristic railway etc. The city itself is very attractive with nice gardens, Saturday market, gothic cathedral. The seaside isn’t far away (Cote d’Opale, Boulogne, Le Touquet).
Plenty of inexpensive accommodation and the restaurants are much cheaper than in Belgium, and the locals are extraordinarily friendly.

Thank you Nan for your answer - Ardennes is definitely an option. My children are 4 months and 4 years. I would like to travel no more than 2 hours by car or if by train even better.

Thank you Brusselsrower for this suggestion as well - I will chek it out

With those children- you could check out Elfteling? It is a Dutch amusement park across the border. Our family also likes Cadzand, NL. It is a beach town, but not nearly as built up at the Belgian coast.
