E411 viaduct closure: How to get into Brussels

22:19 08/10/2017

The SNCB is providing free car-parking and extra trains to encourage drivers to avoid the E411 entry into Brussels, which has been closed at the Herrmann-Debroux viaduct.

Some 2,200 free parking spaces are available at Louvain-la-Neuve station, with extra trains to Brussels in rush hour. Off-peak trains will have more carriages. Commuters can also leave their cars at Genval, Rixensart and La Hulpe stations.

Walloon public transport authority TEC is putting on extra buses on the Conforto line from Louvain-la-Neuve and Wavre to Ixelles, - which will stop at Herrmann-Debroux metro station - and on the route from Louvain-la-Neuve to Roodebeek metro.

Another option is to park at Walibi and take a free TEC bus to Herrmann-Debroux. Buses will leave every 15 minutes in morning and evening rush hours.

Flemish public transport operator De Lijn will run its usual six buses per hour between Overijse and Herrmann-Debroux and a bus every 15 minutes from Hoeilaart.

One of the two lanes on the E411 between Carrefour Léonard and Herrmann-Debroux will be reserved for buses and taxis. If you have to drive, motorists' association Touring recommends going via Tervuren, or through the Sonian Forest via Groenendael.

About 50,000 drivers a day use the Herrmann-Debroux viaduct, which will be closed until at least Thursday morning, after structural weaknesses were found.

The viaduct, built in 1973, links Delta in Auderghem with the E411 and is one of the busiest motorway entry points into the city. Traffic police will be stationed around Auderghem on Monday to handle the extra congestion.
