Dutch hope for higher diesel prices in Belgium

11:06 21/08/2014

Petrol stations in the Netherlands are keeping a close eye on Belgium’s diesel prices this month in the hope that they will go up, “an unexpected windfall for the ailing service stations in the south of the Netherlands," writes De Telegraaf on Thursday.

The price of diesel in Belgium may soon be considerably higher than in the Netherlands, leading motorists and truckers to refuel there instead of in Belgium.

In Belgium, the maximum price for a litre of diesel could rise from €1.40 to as much as €1.60, while in the Netherlands the price of diesel remains less than €1.50 per litre.

Belgium’s new federal government, meanwhile, has said that it would like to see the difference between diesel and petrol prices in Belgium be eliminated over time.
