Del Haize

Question

Forgive me if it seems like I've been living on another planet, but what is it with the strike at Del Haize? I remember vaguely noticing something about a strike at Delhaize about a month ago, but when I was in one yesterday after quite a long absence there were so many empty shelves that there were many things I intended to buy I couldn't get - I asked the cashier what was going on and she said it is due to the strike.

Who at Del Haize is striking and for what - and how long?

Thanks in advance for all answers

All Delhaize supermarkets in Belgium are expected to be open today (Mon. 20th Oct).
Further talks are due to take place this afternoon.
Delhaize management want to close certain stores and also cut employees wages by €9 per month!!

Unfortunately its nothing new to see half empty shelves in Delhaize. Its being going downhill for months and months, at least that's my experience of it. I don't go there anymore but once upon a time it was my favourite supermarket.

If they stayed open until the advertised time rather than stopping letting people in 30 mins before closing they could make up the shortfall

@Rupert: I am afraid this practice is not solely of Delhaize, but it is the typical Belgian customer service...

Delhaize is my supermarket of choice but I cannot stand going in on a Saturday morning and having to fight my way through the shelf-stackers and the huge crates blocking the freezers. This work should be done at night!

Colruyt on a Saturday is even worse. you spend half your time waiting to get round a pallet.
