a decent "pub"

Question

Is there a decent English speaking (or at least international) "pub" somewhere in Brussels or Waterloo where a middle-aged guy can go for an occasional beer after work without being:

1) surrounded by drunk American, English or Swedish teenagers, or

2) surrounded by "up your a*se" eurocrats and hangers on

I've become a long term occassional visitor to Brussels / Waterloo (say a week a month) and just want to find a nice place to have a drink, maybe a steak and perhaps a chat without having to worry that everyone thinks I'm there for the totty, or to talk about politics.
Decent live music (i.e. not some high school band playing heavy metal) would also be a plus.

Beer's on me for the first good suggestion.

Pop yourself over to Schuman, there's the James Joyce, Hairy Canary and the Coolock Café all on Rue Archimède, usually an older crowd and 'fairly' sensible folk kicking around.

Considering that, per capita, there are five times as many cafés in Belgium as pubs in the UK, you shouldn't have any problem finding somewhere.

The Black Sheep, place Flagey in Ixelles. All the staff speak English, the manager keeps the beer well, including some proper UK craft beer on tap, food is good to. Live music, live comedy sometimes.

So who gets the beer?

No. If it's that important to you, take the time to learn French of Flemish.

Oscars Bar in Waterloo is a great bar that serves pub grub.
All the staff are Irish and speak a bit of comedy French!
You will find it next to the Casino and on the opposite side of the road to H&M, AS Adventure and Zara.

Enjoy!!
