Dead ducks raise questions in Brussels' Bois de la Cambre

13:58 26/07/2017

Dead ducks have been spotted floating on the lake in Brussels' Bois de la Cambre every day for the past month, according to Captain Philippe, who is in charge of the pontoon boat that brings visitors to the island in the middle of the lake, writes Bruzz.

"I have been seeing one or two dead ducks every day for a month," Philippe told RTL Info. "I'm worried about those poor animals, because no one has addressed the problem."

Philippe suspects that pollution is at the root of the mass death. "Almost all of the spring chicks have disappeared," he says, adding that there is a large sewage pipe that sometimes expels green fluid into the lake.

The City of Brussels, however, doubts that water pollution is the problem. "We regularly take samples, and have not found anything unusual," says a spokesman, who suggests that the recent heat wave could be a possible explanation.

Of course water pollution can't be the cause. There is no pollution in Brussels. Just ask any politician or city official.
