Warming up for the holiday season: a musical feast and seasonal treats

World music meets rock and electro in Moussem Sounds on Saturday evening at Bozar. The second edition provides cross-over culture from the Maghreb, Europe and the Middle East. The evening kicks off at 18.30 with the film Electro Chaabi, a documentary on alternative youth music culture in Egypt by Hind Meddeb (in Arabic; Fr subtitles), continues with concerts by Oum (Morocco) and Souad Massi (Algeria) and closes after midnight in a DJ afterparty featuring Cairo Liberation Front.

Fill your festive hamper at a Christmas fair on Saturday organised by the British & Commonwealth Women’s Club of Brussels. As well as edible goodies, you’ll find stocking fillers, books, DVDs, cards and crackers. At the BCWCB clubhouse, 509 Rue au Bois, Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, 10.00-15.00.

Delve into the dark world of director David Lynch in a retrospective of his multidisciplinary work at Cinema Galeries until March 2015.It includes a photo exhibition, Small Stories, 40 black-and-white images created by Lynch especially for the show.

As the title denotes, Festival Zéro<18 provides a programme of entertainment for children and their families at Flagey on Sunday. It marks the 25th anniversary of the International Convention for the Rights of Children. Free events all day: concerts, theatre, opera, screenings, dance, sport and more.

Australian folk-pop duo Angus & Julia Stone perform solo songs from their third album at Cirque Royal on Monday (November 24). Final tickets on sale now for the brother and sister act from Sydney.

British ska legends The Specials appear at Ancienne Belgique on Tuesday (November 25), as part of a new live tour, celebrating the fifth anniversary of the band’s reforming.

Community theatre group BLOC (Brussels Light Opera Company) stages the popular musical My Fair Lady from November 27 to 30 at Auderghem Cultural Centre.

An early seasonal treat is Nocturnes du Sablon, from November 27 to 30, with no less than 16 top chefs ready to tantalise your taste buds. Each night four chefs will be serving signature dishes during the outdoor food festival, while diners can enjoy a musical programme by the Foundation Yehudi Menuhin. The theme of the event, in and round the Sablon area, is multiculturalism. Organised by local businesses and Culinaria.

There’s no way you can ignore the imminent festive season with Winter Wonders taking over the city centre from Friday November 28 until the end of the school holidays on January 4. Christmas chalets will wend their way from the Grand Place, past the Bourse and down into Place Sainte-Catherine. A Latvian fir tree graces the former, a big wheel and skating rink the latter. There’s also an evening show Electrabel Nights, a luminous installation brightening the façade of Sainte-Catherine church and an Ice Age-themed exhibition near the Bourse.
