Couleur Café music festival gets new location and more

23:59 18/06/2017
There's a new look for the long-running Brussels festival this year

After 27 years, Couleur Café, the popular Brussels summer music festival, has been revamped and filled with all new surprises.

Formerly located at Tour & Taxis, the three-day festival will now be held in the park next to the Atomium. One of the organisers, Dennis Corbesier, says that is just the beginning of this year's changes to the festival.

“Since we're in the park it gives us a lot of opportunity to surprise people - so there are going to be lots of things hidden in the park,” says Corbesier. “There is a secret bar located somewhere that people need to find and there are chill zones with hammocks everywhere.”

The stages have been re-done and renamed. There will be four different stages, each named after a colour with the entire area decorated entirely to match the name - red, blue, green and black. The black stage has been sponsored by Red Bull Elektropedia and will be hosted by a DJ each night.

However, it’s not only music bringing in the crowds. The festival hosts more than 40 world restaurants which can be found throughout the park. "The food is really amazing," says Corbesier. "I know people who buy their ticket just to get the food. I think you can be entertained the whole weekend without even seeing one band.”

There are also some events that are completely exclusive to Couleur Café, the most notable being Niveau4, a hip-hop project that began last year. Niveau4 is a one-hour show that will be held during the festival which features 10 Belgian rappers and two DJs. “All of Belgium's rappers are united, with the most promising rappers on one stage," Corbesier explains.

The festival’s website contains practical information for festival-goers to get the most out of their experience. Although parking spots are available, it is strongly recommended that you use public transport to access the venue. “On the back of your ticket is a code and you can use all STIB transportation for free and trains are a 50% discount, so I’d say leave your car at home,” Corbesier says.

The festival, from 30 June to 2 July, features artists ranging from Roméo Elvis to The Roots to Lil Dicky. Day passes start at €39 online and discounts are available for groups of 10 or more.
