Cost of electricity in Belgium decreasing

The price of electricity went down in Belgium in 2013, while it increased in the rest of Europe, according to figures from Eurostat, the European Agency for Statistics. Despite the decline, the average cost of electricity in Belgium remains higher than in most European countries.

The average price of electricity in Belgium fell by 0.4% in 2013, but went up in the euro zone in the same period by 4.2%, and in the European Union by 2.8%.

Eurostat compared the price of electricity per 100kWh, including taxes. In Belgium, there was a notable decrease, but the country remains relatively expensive with an average price of €22.2 per 100kWh, compared to €20.1 across Europe.

The cheapest country for electricity is Bulgaria (€8.8), while the most expensive countries are Denmark (€29.4) and Germany (€29.2). In France, the average price of electricity increased by almost 10% in 2013, to €15.9.
