Community art project promotes mental health

Exhibition and open-door events shine light on mental healthcare in the capital

The exhibition ECHO is the flagship event of the community art project Parcours d’Artistes, a two-part annual event aimed at bringing the work of mental health institutions to a wider audience. The art trail is supported by 20 mental health organisations in collaboration with schools in Brussels. It is organised by the Brussels capital’s mental healthcare platform PFCSM.

In the show of paintings, photographs, mosaics, each artwork is in response to an exhibit shown at last year’s conceptual art show Not Really Really, an inaugural exhibition by Brussels-based French collector Frédéric de Goldschmidt. It displayed a diverse range of works that were created from functional objects and materials stripped of their utility to propose alternate realities.

ECHO is staged over two days in the same venue, a former city-centre mental health facility that Goldschmidt acquired at public auction and transformed into a multifunctional art space.

The second part of the art trail runs until the end of the month; open door events at each of the mental health organisations, including theatre, exhibitions, cabaret and film.

ECHO, 9 & 10 March, 9.00-17.00, opening 8 March, 18.30-22.00 (workshops, 9 & 10 March, 10.00-12.00 & 14.00-16.00), Quai du Commerce 7, 1000 Brussels. Open doors, 10 to 31 March, multiple venues
