Commune registration II

Question

Hi all,

Have anyone ever received a letter from 1000 Brussels regarding the registration of a simple address change.

I registered online. The police came by at my new address and I answered all their questions

I expected then to receive a letter to come to the commune to finalize the registration and update my ID card.

I waited 2 months with nothing happening, so I took a day off, went to the commune directly and had to endure waiting in the big crowded room with all the lost, despairing people desperate to have their papers. Additionally I had to endure my smartphone running out of batteries(zzzzz) and then receiving the subsequent inevitable scolding from the wife for not picking up her calls.

Anyhow, I finally got to present my case and was told I had to pay 6 Euro for the registration which I eagerly did. I then asked the lady behind the counter if all is good and she told me, the police had still to finalize their 'convocation' and I had to come back(ugh) to update my ID card.(That's what I was there for...).

My French is not that good, but from what I understood I should receive an letter from the commune once they have been updated by the Police and I can go and finalize the registration.

My question is, have anybody residing in 1000 Brussels ever received such a letter. I am afraid I will be left in limbo again for months and have to take things into my own hands again.

Thank you in advance for answers

Go to your local police station and speak to your 'community officer'.
They are responsible for this and should be able to resolve the issue.

If the police have already visited, there should be no need to visit again.

I was waiting for a long time for my (new) ID card as well, and eventually I just visited the police officer rather than wait for them to drop by... got things done a lot more quickly.

Tip: If you have to go to the borough hall for something, go early; if you get there twenty minutes before they open, once they are open you will be taken care of quickly.
