Commemorative bust planned for ex-mayor Mayeur

08:15 03/08/2017

Former Brussels Mayor Yvan Mayeur, like his predecessors, will get his own bust in the stairwell of City Hall. Mayeur may choose an artist to sculpt the statue in his likeness, according to a long tradition. The last bust, of former mayor Freddy Thielemans (pictured), cost about €67,000, writes Bruzz.

The tradition of commemorating the Brussels mayors with a marble bust started in 1830, with every mayor to this day seeing their faces grace the 'escalier d'honneur'. The only exception is the two mayors who were appointed by German occupiers during World War II.

And so, too, will Mayeur be commemorated with his own bust, despite being forced to step down as mayor after his involvement in the Samusocial scandal.

Imo, this says it all:
François Sant'Angelo · Anderlecht
On pourrait voir figurer en exergue la phrase suivante : "En remerciement à Yvan Mayeur, pour services rendus (à lui-même)"

I think his eyes should be 2 euro coins. Or he should have Euros coming out of his nose and/or ears. Hopefully he'll have to pay for the bust with some of the money he embezzled.
