colonoscopy

Question

A little concerned about going for colonscopy with anaesthetic) - since i read that there is a risk of perforation and peritonitis damage in the procedure. Does medici clinic have a good reputation - would you recommend it ? Thank you

Hi Lovelorn,
please don't worry to much ...potentially are your risks not having the c. much bigger?
I was with Medicis (av. de Tervuren - is this the one you are referring to!) some years ago. Medicis does not do it, your Gastro-Specialist works with a Brussels hospital, he/she is affiliated with. I was very well treated at Saint-Jean (close to Botanique) - good pre-consultations, excellent anaesthesia and about 20 minutes later all was done - relax & have a good sleep ;-).

It is practically safe. I had it at St. Luc two years ago. Chin up.

I've had a few over the years. Never any problems - there are of course risks of perforations but I know that the chance is very low.

To try and settle your nerves, I've just been reading some studies on the risks of perforations during colonoscopies, and in a 2015 study in the US there were 228 issues out of 277,434 of the patients looked at, which comes out at 0.08% chance, or 1 in 998 people has an issue.

As I said, I've had a few over the years and they really aren't anything to worry about.

My colleague has this done every year as a day patient in the Clinique St. Jean. I and several friends have had this intervention (and endoscopy) done by Dr. Luc Oosterbosh, Ave Paul Hymans, in his consulting rooms there. Highly recommend him.

Have had this done at Medicis - excellent service. The pre-exam routine is far worse than the actual exam. And having had one done without anaesthetic I wouldn't recommend it!
