Co-proprietaire - will others contribute to insulating one apartment?

Question

I live in a building with several apartments (co-proprietaire with a syndic). I'd like to insulate the floor in my apartment which is on the ground floor.

Do you know whether it will be only at my own expense or other owners will have to contribute? I'll be the main beneficiary but on the other hand insulation will also contribute to some extent to the energy efficiency of the whole house. How can I convince the others to contribute financially? Thank you.

Almost certainly at your own expense. Be absolutely certain to get written permission from the landlord to undertake the work to avoid any problems when you come to leave.

"Written permission from the landlord"? It is indeed not expliicitly mentioned but I would say it's blindingly obvious that Borealis is the owner of the apartment.

Not that blindingly obvious, he/she could be renting from one of the owners...

Thanks, but yes, I am the owner of the apartment (I wouldn't be insulating someone else's).

I was still thinking the other owners would contribute. Eg if the roof is leaking in one apartment, don't all the owners have to pay?

"insulate the floor" - Hope you know what you're doing as this is a very easy way to trap damp in the structure.

You would be extremely ill advised to do what is effectively structural work on the building without getting the approval and cooperation of the syndic.

"How can I convince the others to contribute financially? "

No-one in their right mind would assume that as a tenant they would have any chance or opportunity to convince the owners of other apartments to do anything or pay for anything. A tenant has no right to participate in any co-proprietaire meetings or even know the details of any of the owners.

If Borealis indeed was renting and wanted to do this insulation, he/she would need to do everything through the landlord.

Thanks, Anon. Indeed, I intend to discuss with the syndic. Now I am just thinking how to get approval of the other owners (if necessary) since they may not care about my apartment.

'Will other owners will HAVE to contribute?'
Absolutely not.
And I wonder whether I am missing something or you are deluding yourself.
You maintain your temperature at, say, 20° and the occupants of the flat above you benefit from the heat that rises through your ceiling/their floor.
If you insulate your floor and so reduce your fuel consumption but maintain your temperature at 20°, exactly how do you imagine that the folk in the flat upstairs benefit?
If you decide to raise your settings to 22° then there would be a, theoretical, benefit to your neighbours. Would you then expect them to contibute to your higher bills?
And, if the roof is leaking in one apartment, the insurance has to pay and if the occupant is uninisured that is their problem not yours - though, of course, the syndic should have that covered.
