Club Brugge beat Anderlecht in Belgian Cup Final

12:05 23/03/2015

Club Brugge on Sunday won the final of the Belgian Cup against Anderlecht 2-1, reports brusselnieuws.be. Club Brugge confidently took a 1-0 lead in the 12thminute after a stunning volley from Tom De Sutter. In the 89th minute, Anderlecht’s Aleksandar Mitrović equalised the score, but three minutes later Club Brugge striker Lior Refaelov responded by scoring the winning goal.

There was a lot of excitement around the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels’ Heysel neighbourhood leading up to the match, after the Royal Belgian Football Association and Brussels police encouraged supporters to “have a real football party”. The match got off to a late start, with kick-off at 18.30 instead of the scheduled 18.00.

It is not the first time the two teams competed against each other in the Belgian Cup Final. The first was in 1977, when Brugge won 4-3 over Anderlecht in a spectacular match, and again in 1994 when Anderlecht won 2-0.
