Climate change will bring more holidaymakers to Belgium, says travel boss

14:43 14/08/2023

As the effects of global warming become clear in Europe’s south, Belgium is expected to become a more popular holiday destination for those looking to avoid extreme summer temperatures, one tour operator has suggested.

“There will be changes,” said Sebastian Ebel, chief executive of travel agency TUI.

He told Le Soir he expects this change to take place in the near future, adding that travellers would also choose to take holidays in the autumn or spring, when it is cooler.

The Netherlands and the Scandinavian countries will also be increasingly favored by tourists, Ebel said, adding that his company would "focus more on these new destinations".

Bookings for the Benelux and Scandinavia for autumn 2023 have already increased, he added.
