Christmas reopening for Chaussée de Louvain

22:32 22/11/2017

The Chaussée de Louvain in Saint-Josse, which has been closed since September because of a 36m² sinkhole, could now reopen on 22 December.

A burst water main caused the street to collapse at the junction of Boulevard Clovis, opposite music venue Jazz Station. Rail services were suspended for a week because of flooding on the railway line underneath.

Saint-Josse mayor Emir Kir said the repairs were more complicated than expected and were three weeks behind schedule but praised "the efficiency and collaboration between public bodies and private companies".

The works have involved gas and electricity supplier Sibelga, water company Vivaqua, the SNCB, the Stib and Brussels-Mobility.

Chaussée de Louvain is an important route into Brussels city centre from Zaventem, Sterrebeek, Sint-Stevens-Woluwe and parts of Evere and Schaerbeek.
