Christmas bonus or tips for trash men? How much?

Question

I have lived here for almost 6 months, in WSP commune. How much do you give the trash (white poubelle and recycle trash)? Both groups came already this weekend Nov 30 and Dec 1st and I have no idea how much per person (team of 3 for recycle trash and like 5-6 for white trash). They said they'll return tuesday. Frankly dec. just started and we got their letter with photo in the mailbox last week, that said in December but we haven't even been paid our bonus and they are already at the door! Guess i have to pay it for 5.5 months of living here.
Also how much to a cleaning lady that only comes twice a month for 5hrs each time, since june? And advice will be greatly appreciated.

Five euro per group.
They normally carry an official card from "Bruxelles Propreté". Many con groups roam the street during the period so keep carefully tag of who you give cash to.

Ahh, per group. That's not much, tho I suppose it adds up quicky per house. Thank you, I will check their photo and make sure they carry the official card you say.

You must be in a "posh" bit where you get everyone and anyone asking for money at your door. The bin teams try to out-compete each other (we have 3 - white, green & recycling), and there are a good number of fraudsters why make a healthy buck out of the affair as well.

Ettiquette in this house is they get sod f***-all and a call to the police if they are not in official uniform. The police nabbed the last lot.

Otherwise, they get up to a fiver per team (lots of teams...). But only if I'm 100% sure that they''re genuine.

Beware - even genuine binmen have been known to target "extra" rounds. We had 5 different lots about 5-6 years ago.

I live in Lot, rural, non-ex-pat area and have NEVER been asked for a tip. I totally agree with Kasseistamper in his reply to buster below, and would never pay. Belgian workers receive part of theair extra month and 3/4 salary at this time anyway. Why should I pay again just for them to do their job? I already pay my rediculously high Belgian taxes.

Sorry, but this is not some kind if benefit!! I get this so-called great 13th month too but I am entitled to it as part of my annual salary as stipulated in my contract. It is not extra. The same goes for cheques repas, which are a convenient way for employers to save on tax because the cost of empoying a person in Belgium is very high!

Not all employees get it. It is dependent on the sector. Don't assume bin-men get a 13th month - nurses don't.
