Childhood obesity in Belgium below European average

14:37 28/04/2016

According to recent figures from the World Health Organization (WHO), one in six Belgian youth is overweight, a relatively low number compared with other European countries. Remarkably, however, about half of the girls in Belgium believe they are too fat, while often they are not, writes the health website gezondheid.be.

The WHO figures for Europe reveal that Belgium ranks among the 10 countries with the least overweight 11- and 13-years old. In the 15-year-old age group, Belgium scores about average.

Child obesity is now a global epidemic, according to a recent WHO report from the Commission on Ending Childhood Obesity.
