Changing work

Question

Late last Friday I signed a contract with a new employer, due to start in October. I have since been made a better offer and would like to renege on the initial contract and accept the offer from the new company. Where do I stand legally with this?

Legally your 'new employer' could sue you for breach of contract and claim any costs incurred in recruiting your replacement.
Realistically nothing will happen.
