CD review: Sunday Bell Ringers - "Sunday Bell Ringers"

From (Hey Hey We’re) The Monkees to Bo Diddley Is A Lover, there is something endearing about songs in which artists introduce themselves.

Brussels' Sunday Bell Ringers also boast an eponymous track, but thankfully this debut album won’t spoil your well-earned dominical lie-in. Joeri Cnapelinckx’s compositions oscillate between homegrown Americana and recent efforts by fellow countrymen MLCD and DAAU. Often charming (Like Home, a duet with Inne Eysermans), it can also sound a tad pretentious. Anyway, it’s high time to go get the Sunday papers.
