Cat lost

Hopefully not in the Overijse area. We have cleaned up two cats from the streets this week :-(

is the cat chipped? if yes your chances of finding it are good. On the other hand, sometimes cats run away if they feel poorly. Good luck.

Where did it happen? Can you provide a description?
Hang up 'lost' signs with a picture and description - also put up ads on facebook Brussels/Belgian expat pages...

Do you have a photograph?
If yes, put him on Youtube and mention the link in your Xpats advert. Many people look at Youtube clips.

Our cat got out the window onto Avenue d'Auderghem which is an extremely busy main road. I was really upset and sure that he would be killed or lost forever. I made a colour poster and did loads of copies and put them up everywhere for a good distance around. I got a lot of phone calls about sightings of cats and followed up on all of them by going to the areas where people said they saw the cat and calling for him. There were several other cats involved and I was never sure whether it was him or not. This went on for several weeks and I was near giving up hope. But one caller range me a few times and said she was sure it was the same cat, but she could not get him to come indoors so she could keep him for me. Then a few more days passed and I had another call which was similar. Both were within a few hundred meters of my house, so I think the cat moved from one place to the next as these ladies were feeding him. Two months after losing him, I got another call from a different person also not very far from my house and she had my cat, safe and sound in her shed. He was thin and frightened but he was fine and recovered quickly.

Sorry this is so long, but my advices is ...the cat is probably near your home...he/she will go to any place where people will feed him/her. My cat stayed away from the street and seemed to lurk about back gardents and waste ground in the area, from the information I could gather, so it may be Worth walking around and calling him/her. You need good clear colour posters and a put your phone number up very large and clearly (and easy to tear off the poster). The commune keeps a record of any dead animals picked up by the street cleaners so you can find out if any cat has been killed ...sorry :-( They do not keep dead animals but they just record that a dead cat/dog was found.

Someone told me that cats that are lost try to move around in a circular patterns trying to find some place that is familiar.

If you think the cat may come to your door and will not be able to gain access you can put a baby monitor near the door so you could hear him/her mewing.

My cat, who had come over from the UK a few months earlier and was not at all familiar with the area, Etterbeek near the Quartier de Casernes, escaped. Unfortunately we had to be away for a week, the son was still at home and scoured the area to no avail.
When we returned I was sitting in our front room that night and heard a call I knew !
She was home. No weight loss and in good condition. Cats are born survivors with a homing instinct, be patient and it is most likely your cat will find its' way home.

Check the local rescue centres. Veeweijde for example has a facebook page with animals who are brought in as they were found on the street.
