Cancelling rental contract, the apartment was sold or donated

Question

When the rented property is sold or donated how tenant finds out about it ?
Should it be official notification from the new owner ?

I canceled my rental contract because the owner did not register it.
I sent the notice to the landlady that I'm leaving, but now I'm not sure she is still the owner.
I didn't receive any official notification that apartment was sold or donated but her daughter sent me an email saying indirectly that she is the owner.
I was still paying my rent to the old bank account.

Can it be a problem that I sent the notice to the old landlord instead of the new one ?

No you didn't. Only a magistrate (Juge de Paix) can cancel a rental contract.

Did you reply "my contract says different"?

> I was still paying my rent to the old bank account.
As per your contract. Good.

Landlords don't just metamophise. They die, and their estates are handled by a lawyer. Or they give their property away, which also mest be handled by a lawyer (to avoid huge tax bills). So there MUST be a lawyer somewhere who can answer this.
